When I was a kid, which was a very, very long time ago, there was this saying of 一隻鹹蛋三碗飯.
It was intended to describe a person's, especially a child's, frugal palate.
Fast forward half a century, to today.....
According to those 健康佬, 鹹蛋 is unhealthy (too salty), and 三碗飯 is too much carbo for one day, even for an adult, let alone a kid. Could it be because such a meal was very cheap?
心血來潮, I checked the price of a 鹹蛋 in my neighborhood wet market the other day, and found that it's $2.50 each. I then calculated the cost of 三碗飯 and came up with about $3, or about $1 per bowl. 一隻鹹蛋三碗飯 cost $5.50.
So, if one limit one's intake of rice to 1 bowl, in accordance with 健康佬's suggestion, that leaves $4.50 for 餸. If one spends it all on leafy vegetables like 菜心 or 芥蘭, one can get at least 五六兩 veggies.
Ponder: Wouldn't 五六兩 蔬菜一碗飯 be much healthier, at the same cost?
I love your term 健康佬。 = )
ReplyDelete一粒腐乳三碗飯都好正呀。
腐乳 is equally unhealthy la ;-)
DeleteHealth-wise, I do think veggie is better than the salted egg. Yet, if we eat veggie + rice everyday, it will bore us to die too.
ReplyDeleteI think that old saying referred to kids from very poor family
DeleteWhat kind of 師奶 are you pondering on this in such a way?
ReplyDeleteThe kind nosy enough to 去街市八吓 to check out an old saying... :-)
